Small business: buying supplies on a card

Open the Small Business demo (Demo library) to follow along.

Charging supplies to a card defers the cash impact to the card payment. This shows the asset-versus-liability rule on the small-business data.

  1. In Small Business (Demo), note the liability account Business Credit Card.
  2. Find Supplies, a monthly outflow to Wholesale Supply Co charged to the card, not to Operating Checking.
  3. Run a projection: the supply charges raise what is owed on the card but do not pull cash down when they post.
  4. Now find Monthly card payment and the actual Pay down the card: paying the card from the bank is when cash actually leaves.

Projected cash counts asset balances only, so the card payment, not the charge, is the cash event.
