Small business: buying supplies on a card
Open the Small Business demo (Demo library) to follow along.
Charging supplies to a card defers the cash impact to the card payment. This shows the asset-versus-liability rule on the small-business data.
- In Small Business (Demo), note the liability account Business Credit Card.
- Find Supplies, a monthly outflow to Wholesale Supply Co charged to the card, not to Operating Checking.
- Run a projection: the supply charges raise what is owed on the card but do not pull cash down when they post.
- Now find Monthly card payment and the actual Pay down the card: paying the card from the bank is when cash actually leaves.
Projected cash counts asset balances only, so the card payment, not the charge, is the cash event.
