The projection and fan chart

A projection rolls a starting balance forward through every forecast and actual in scope to show the cash balance over time. Because forecasts carry confidence, the projection is a fan chart: a most-likely line (p50) with a shaded band of plausible outcomes.

The probability-of-negative is the chance the balance dips below zero in the window. The mid-market projection is tuned so a large equipment purchase drives it below zero, making that number meaningful. See *Read the projection*.
