Invoices: roll-up and drill-down

An invoice is a sales (money in) or purchase (money out) document with an amount, an issue date, and payment terms (net-N) that set a due date. Invoices are optional supporting detail that make a party's expected cash specific and dated.

For a party over a period, the expected amount is the roll-up: the sum of that party's open invoices due in the window. From the roll-up you can drill down to the constituent invoices behind the number. In the enterprise demo, three sales invoices to Umbrella Distribution (INV-1001, INV-1002, INV-1003) roll up into one expected inflow.

Recording a payment against an invoice ties it to the actual that realized it, so paid invoices drop out of the expected roll-up. See *Enterprise: invoice roll-up and drill-down*.
