A reserve earmarks cash for a purpose (taxes, a distribution, a rainy-day cushion) so your usable balance reflects what is truly free. A reserve funds either a fixed amount per period or a derived rate, on a monthly, weekly, or biweekly cadence, and can earmark specific buckets.
